Hey there, this is great software, however I'd rather use my local art that I curate rather than MusicBrainz as a dataset. I see this isn't possible, but would this be a consideration in the future?

Hey, unfortunately this is not feasible. Discord requires a (public-facing) URL for images. I've chosen Musicbrainz (album art archive) as it provides a public API which doesn't require authentication so that it Just Werks.

I would be open to PRs introducing support for other image hosts alongside the existing one, but won't be adding this myself.
