This isn't true for all applications. MPD and Firefox for example work fine. Are you able to confirm which applications you're experiencing this with please?
@Coki91 commented on GitHub (Mar 28, 2026):
Hello, thanks for the swift response
It's complicated, I just ran a few more tests and it seems to be working with Firefox (I personally don't use MPD so I didn't test it now) but it seems to be consistent with the application I originally tested, VLC which displays only Audio Streams
Here is where it gets complicated, I additionally ran a WINE application (a videogame) and it is also labeled as just "Audio Stream" so we can likely point to applications running on WINE broadly being affected as pictured below;
Something also strange (perhaps a separate issue) would be the same applications registering multiple clients that appear and disappear at random as I managed to screenshot here;
Note that I only have that application open and this occurring is abnormal as I've never had it happen with for example SFWbar's Volume control Widget
Cheers for the work
@Lucert commented on GitHub (Apr 26, 2026):
Just wanted to add what I saw, since I'm currently forced to use pavucontrol like 90% of the time since the names are not exactly usable if you have 5+ programs open
This is what I see on Pavucontrol:
This is the Volume Module:
So it looks like it simply lacks the option to get the program name, which would be enough for just about every usecase afaik.

Had another crack at this & found the solution staring me in the face. Fix inbound.
